Our History
South Bay Athletic Club (SBAC) was founded in 2022 by Former USC Shot Putter (‘71) John Colich in partnership with two other board members, including current Board President Conor McCullough. The group came together to build the Colich Throwing Center, the premier training facility for throwing sports in Southern California. We started monthly off-site community engagements later that year.

Today, we are reaching over 1,200 young people annually through weekly on-site and off-site programming with over 40 elite college athletes partnering with us as coaches. At the Colich Throwing Center, we host athletic training, community events, free Play Days, and regional competitions like the LA Throws Cup. In addition, we partner with local youth programs at community centers, parks, and schools to supplement their work with free structured sport and play, all coached by our elite athletes.
